I love the feeling of setting a goal, and the way I create a roadmap to achieving each goal usually involves a series of daily and weekly to-do lists. In the book Designing Your Life by Bill Burnett & Dave Evans, they mention the formation of an Odyssey plan, which is essentially a loose written out timeline of things you’d like to accomplish and experiences you’d like to have by certain periods of time in your life. The fun part is that you can create more than just one odyssey plan depending on how life could possibly pan out. It doesn’t have to be as “realistic”.
Once a few Odyssey plans with lofty dreams and goals are drawn out, I focus on the ones I’d like to reach first and begin creating weekly to-do lists with tasks I can accomplish in the short term that will get me where I’d want to be in the upcoming few months.
